Lee's Bio
Welcome to my ”Geological, metaphorically time-based biography”. Let’s begin...
A long time ago within a galaxy far far away before the "Archean Era" stood a grade 6 or 7 classroom. The teacher brought out his 6 string acoustic guitar and started strumming and singing songs. The whole class accompanied him enjoying themselves. Witnessing that enjoyment I find the capability of music. I was inspired to re-create that same experience. My parents bought me my first instrument. A nameless $32.00 acoustic guitar. It had 6 strings I could touch and make noises. I would practice all the finger positions for open, minor and 7th chords. They never sounded right because the guitar never stayed in tune. When I changed the strings, the wrong string would be in the wrong position. That was the birth of my journey into music.
In the "Silurian Period" of the "Paleozoic Era," I was a young teenager who had purchased his first electric guitar. I was introduced to the now infamous "prog" rock band named "RUSH" by a friends older brother. That fueled and boosted my progress. I had now succeeded the finger positioning and playing the scales. However, nothing original was developing. RUSH’s compositional structure intrigued my mind and I started to explore how a song was created. I tried to imitate the style of Alex Lifeson by learning his guitar parts and still I felt something was missing. Then I discovered my greatest lesson in music. I learned a lot from playing music with others. I incorporated into my playing what I learned to create my style. So I find to create original music I'd have to play my style with my sound. It may sound similar to a band or artist I have heard before but it’s that sound that inspired me to create my own.
Back in the "Jurassic World" of the "Mesozoic Era", I acquired other instruments that added to my wheelhouse. It included acoustic and electric guitars. The bass guitar included is featured for it became one of my main instruments. The MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) keyboard became an important part of my musical exploration. While it was not popular with some musicians I taught myself the “ins”, “thru” and “outs” of MIDI. I was able to use it in my little studio as well in live applications. “If you build it, they will come,” they say. I was building my musicianship while increasing the number of people that wanted to play music with me. I was shaping my skills, learning the lingo and tickling the techniques of all musical aspects. With the tools I had, I was now capable of creating the sounds I wanted. Original compositions of mine were forming while recording and I shared my excitement with others.
During the "Quaternary Time" in the "Cenozoic Era," I was able to compose and record many original ideas. I hastily released my first 2 CD compilations. If I had known what I know now they would have turned out differently. To this point in time, I have played in several basement bands. Personality conflicts, creative differences and generally life's priorities got in the way. During the “down times” of playing in these bands, I was able to upgrade my studio and get critical in my music. I was knowledgeable about what I wanted and that was to get my sound and style. In the end, I hoped that what I enjoyed getting recorded is that others would get the enjoyment of listening to my music as well.
Now here in the 21st Century, this final installment of this chapter features “The Interval Of Time”. This album is what I consider to be the crowning achievement of my recordings. By no means will this album be the last. The next chapter of a new era has already begun. I feel I’ve obtained the sound, the composition and everything else I have been working towards in a recording project. Finally, this grade 6 or 7 student was able to have his wish granted. I do it for me. Enjoyed by every else is a bonus in my books. A very special mention has to be made to Joe Nicholson("Bud"). More than he is someone to bounce ideas off, I am able to gain an honest opinion. Joe "Mastered" my latest efforts and he is credited for the graphic design, administration, legalities and everything else. A collaboration with Joe?! (hint, hint) "Thanks BUD!"
We all lived happily ever after!... Lee.
